Alec Guinness was truly one of the great British actors of the later
half of the 1900's. Alec was in 47 movies in over 50 years of acting. Alec Guinness was in some of the great movies of all time highlighted by roles in Star Wars (George
Lucas), The Bridge on the River Kwai (for which he won the Best Actor Academy Award), Lawrence of Arabia (Peter
O'Toole, David Lean), and A Passage to India. He played a wide range of character roles over his acting career. His most famous character was Obi Wan in Star Wars, but he played many memorable characters. Other notable Alec Guiness movies include Oliver Twist, The Ladykillers, and Scrooge. He will forever be remembered for this great body of film work.
Alec was born in London, England in 1914. His full name was Alec Guinness de Cuffe. He started out working as a writer for advertising. When he was twenty ears old he got his first job in the theatre and never looked back. He was thirty-two when he got his first film role.
