Frequently Asked Questions
· Have the data file you want to back up open · use the ‘File’ menu and select Save … Tracker File As · A pop-up window will appear with the new file name *.bkt (for Book Tracker). The file extension is different for each title: .alb, .flm, .hdw · Replace the asterisk with your new file name · Select the ‘a’ or ‘e’ drive · Click okay · You have now backed up your data
· No, you purchased a single user license that you can use on your new PC. However, every time you re-install the program you must re-enter your original registration code. So don't loose your code!
· No, unfortunately the data files would be lost unless you have a back up or some type of recovery program. The program you purchased from us however, can be easily downloaded from our website at www.ducksoftware.com. You just re-enter your original registration code. See question #1 above for directions on backing up your data to avoid this problem.
· Yes, the upgrades are free to registered users with their original registration codes. Often, the data files would need to be converted to work with the newer version. The conversion programs are located at the bottom of each software title main page (see question #2 above) 6) What do I get when I register?
You get a registration code that enables the shareware program to allow
an unlimited number of entries. You can also get a diskette with the
shareware program on it, if you prefer, for an additional $3.00 (US
and Canada, $5.00 other countries). 7) How do I install
your shareware once I've downloaded it to my hard drive?
First Run the file you have
downloaded by clicking on it from Windows Explorer or Selecting it from
the Run Command line. Then follow the instructions to install.
It's that easy.
8) Do you have Windows
3.1 or MAC versions of your software?
No, right now we do not support
those operating systems.
9) How many entries can I enter with the registered version?
There are no programmed limits to the number of entries you can enter. However, there are practical limits to the size of the file and the number of entries. This can depend on how much data you have have in your average entry (For example, if you have a long summary for each entry this will make the file larger and, therefore, make the maximum number of entries less.) and the available system resources like memory, operating system, hard disk drive, etc. We don't have an exact maximum number, but we have seen fairly full files of over 10,000 entries work and have tested files with over 30,000 entries. We have also seen files of 30,000 entries that were maxed out on one of our PCs. So results can vary, but hopefully this gives you a good idea of what to expect. |
